PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
