The distinctive yellow-colored apartment block in the background assisted us verify the footage.

Our team is analyzing video footage and photographs shared earlier today that purport to show the scene of a reported car bomb blast that authorities in Russia say fatally injured a senior military officer in Moscow.

Officials in Russia confirmed that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was inside the car that exploded and that he later died to his wounds. A probe is currently ongoing.

Our starting point to verify the location from which the images originated relied on posts indicating the blast happened on Yasenevaya Street in the southern district of the Russian capital.

Our analysis employed panoramic mapping services on digital map platforms and the Russian search engine Yandex to corroborate the unique yellow colour of a nearby residential complex seen in the footage.

Locating other structures, lamp-posts and the street layout confirmed where the footage were captured.

Additionally, we verified that the video clips were recent and that the images had not undergone digital alteration.
